As a public research university in Coventry, England, Coventry University was established in 1843. The Coventry School of Design was established in 1843. From 1970 to 1987, it was known as Lanchester Polytechnic, and from 1992 until it was granted university status, its name changed to Coventry University. It was known as Coventry Polytechnic until the Further and Higher Education Act of 1992 gave it university status. As of 2021, Coventry University Online ranked highest worldwide for Massive Online Open Courses (MoocLab’s World University Rankings by MOOC Performance 2021). Due to their flexible course offerings and engaging instruction, they are the only UK university to receive a 5-star rating for online learning from QS Stars University Ratings.
