Accommodation in Australia
Accommodation options are plentiful for Nepalese students planning to study in Australia. As a student, you can live on campus, rent a room, live in a homestay, or find a local host. Nevertheless, it is essential to choose a location that meets your needs. Most Australian university students live off-campus in homestay programs, hostels, or rented properties, although some on-campus accommodation is available at universities. Students should know their budget and lifestyle to find a suitable place.
Here are some options for accommodation:
Home Stay
The act of living with family members in their homes. There may be single or shared rooms available. Living costs are usually between AUD 250 and AUD 350 per week. Meals are generally included, but you may also find a self-catered homestay if you desire. For your convenience, we can arrange an approved and reputed homestay. This is a tremendous respect for younger students since they can enjoy home comforts, spend time with their families, and have meals and cleaning delivered. Homestay families are thoroughly monitored to ensure that they provide stable and suitable living conditions. During a homestay program, a Nepalese student is placed in the home of an Australian citizen and can fully integrate into Australian society. Students can obtain a list of licensed and reliable homestay providers by contacting their institution’s accommodation service.
Hostel and Guest House
Most students who transfer from a local, interstate, or international location to study choose to live in hostels. They are often an excellent short-term solution, while a more permanent solution is sought. Some international students may prefer hostels and guest houses. This accommodation has a shared kitchen and bathroom, and students are responsible for cooking for themselves. Generally, these rooms cost between A$80 and A$135 per week, less expensive than university or homestay accommodations. Additionally, they offer social opportunities for international students.
Rental Apartment
Students in Australia often decide to split the cost of a rental property with a group of roommates. It is possible for students who choose this type of housing to move into an existing household or to form their own with friends. Students are required to provide their furniture, and legal rights issues are rarely furnished. Rental accommodations typically cost between A$100 and A$400 per week, with shared concessions costing between A$70 and A$250. A security deposit equal to one month’s rent is usually required as a security deposit for these accommodations.
On-Campus Living
A university operates or controls housing that can relatively with students’ use. Could you check with your institution regarding their accommodations and compare the costs of arranging them? Many Australian students live off campus. However, some universities provide housing to their students in residential colleges, halls of residence, or apartments. Students from abroad should contact their institution before arriving in Australia since prices and housing availability vary by university. Students should apply as early as possible because these housing options are limited and in high demand. The average cost of on-campus housing is between A$80 and A$250 per week.
Residential Colleges
The residential colleges exclusively provide students with housing, food, laundry, and various academic, social, and cultural services. Residential colleges are committed to providing quality care and support, academic support, and sporting, cultural, and leadership development opportunities. Generally, residential colleges are more expensive than halls of residence, which offer similar accommodations but fewer additional amenities. The self-catering facilities are intended for students who wish to be more independent. In addition, residence halls provide meals and cleaning services for students who want to live independently.
Apartments
Some universities rent out apartments to their students, either on or near campus. The housing choices available to students in Australia are numerous, so they should carefully consider which one best suits their needs. Since 90-100 per cent of Australian students live off-campus, there are several options for off-campus accommodations. As a result, housing is in high demand, particularly near campus. It is recommended that international students arrive in Australia two to three weeks before orientation to settle in before classes begin.
Legal Protection
You must legally pay on time for your lodging, washing, and repair expenses. Your legal right is to live in well-maintained housing with running water and electricity and feel safe in your home. Contact your real estate agent or landlord (if you are renting), your international student support staff (if you are staying on campus), or your homestay provider if you experience housing difficulties. There is always someone available to assist you. Some organisations can help in such circumstances.
Intakes for Australia
The most important thing to know when planning to study abroad is the intake process and the timeline. It is common for Australian institutions to have a February or July intake, though some also have a September or November intake. International students prefer these intakes for enrollment. Different Australian universities have other deadlines for submitting applications. It is generally recommended that you apply before November of the previous year for the February intake and before April of the following year for the July intake. Due to the high volume of applications, overseas students are generally enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis. As a result, it is essential to apply as soon as possible to receive an early shortlist at one of the selected Australian universities.
